As I was going through my phone, I found a ton of pictures from this school year that I never posted! There are pictures from our landform projects presentations, when the Aggie men's swim team visited, dissecting owl pellets, doing science outside, making landslides in a bowl, Mr. Eric Litwin's visit (he's the original author of Pete the Cat), counselor lessons, Max Crawford's visit (he's a KBTX meteorologist), our at-school field trip, and more!!

Swamp Day today was so much fun!! The weather was perfect and everybody was very excited to get outside! Thanks to all the parents who came out to volunteer or to watch! Your kids LOVE seeing you at school!
What a busy, fun-filled day we had today! We started with eating breakfast together in the classroom. After CAMP, we watched a Christmas movie (“Prancer”) and did some paper crafts. Then after lunch we had our party! The kids rotated through 4 different activities: ring toss game, bean bag toss game, cookie decorating, and a snowman craft. A huge THANK YOU to Grisham’s Mom, Kerri, Kayden’s Mom, Jessica, and Carter’s Mom, Eileen, for all of your help today! It looks like the kids had a blast!
We had a great field trip to Huntsville State Park! The weather was PERFECT! The park ranger, Ranger Pick, was funny, entertaining, and taught us a ton about alligators! We enjoyed a picnic lunch and took a hike through the woods doing a nature scavenger hunt! Here are the pictures!
I have pictures from last week's activities (music program, pumpkin decorating contest, counselor lesson, and more), and I promise to get those up soon! But I wanted to make sure I got the pictures from today's walking field trip to CSFD Fire Station #3 posted! The students got to play a Jeopardy game with Ms. Christina and Firefighter Lily. We got a tour of the living quarters with Firefighter Debra, and we saw the fire truck in the bay with Firefighter Erik! First up was Mrs. Dalton's homeroom! After a quick lunch, Mrs. Stasney's homeroom took their turn going to to the fire station!
How do you follow a week like Boosterthon??? Why, with cows, pigs, music programs, and counselor lessons, of course! On Wednesday, the Southwest Dairy Farmers' Mobile Dairy Cow came to Creek View! We met Sonny the Jersey cow and her owner, Larry. Larry taught us about dairy cows and milk! After Sonny and Larry finished, it was time for the teachers to pay up on our final Boosterthon reward...KISS A PIG!! Mrs. Moring's husband raises pigs in his off time from the Bryan Fire Department, so she brought a piglet to school! I'm not gonna lie....the piglet smelled like poo-poo and we were NOT looking forward to kissing it! :P After the kissing, the kids got to give the little piglet a pat! We also had our first counselor lessons of the year with Mrs. Surovick! She came this week to talk to us about emotional regulation and keeping our emotions out of the driver's seat in our brain. Mrs. Surovick also taught us about getting tunnel vision when one of our emotions takes over and that the only things we can control are ourselves and our thoughts! We also spent some extra time (outside normal CAMP time) with Mrs. Herriage practicing for our upcoming music program! As you can see from the pictures, Mrs. Stasney's homeroom is going to be on the risers on the right side of the stage and Mrs. Dalton's homeroom is going to be towards the left side of the stage (so you know where to sit when you come Thursday night)! Don't worry! We also spent a lot of time in class working and learning too! :)
On the first day of school, both Mrs. Dalton's homeroom and Mrs. Stasney's homeroom classes spent time together learning our 3 expectations for the year: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Have Self-Control! We read books about these topics, watched videos about them, and the kids created and acted out skits! On the second day of school, we started talking about team work, working together, and figuring out how to solve "small problems" that come up when we work in groups. The kids were given a set of materials (one ruler, 3 feet of masking tape, scissors, and two pieces of construction paper). They were challenged to work as a group to create the longest paper chain they could with only those materials! We soon began talking about our math workshop rotations and practiced each one! Our rotations include stations with partners, teacher table, iPads, and independent work. The kids stay engaged in math tasks and get to engage in the social aspect of learning at the same time! Our first science unit each year is about science safety and science tools/equipment. We did some demonstrations with all of the classes to discuss safety. It was time to kick off our annual Boosterthon fundraiser! We had a great time at the pep rally! We learned about describing the physical properties of matter in science! We used our senses to describe matter (a Jolly Rancher!). We then measured the mass of various items using a pan balance. We also tested the magnetism and buoyancy (sink or float) of the items. Look at these scientists hard at work! The third gradesr reached every goal and incentive we set for them with their Boosterthon fundraising! We ended up the top grade level for the whole school!
Back in April, on the Thursday before Easter weekend, the students completed a BreakOut challenge using various math skills! The class was divided into 4 groups, and each group had a different lock to figure out the combo to do that the black box could be opened successfully. Each group had to work together to use math to figure out their clues! Once they got the box open, we were led on a scavenger hunt around the building to find the treats the Easter Bunny left for us! I know I've already emailed out the link to the students' BizMovies they created. I also took some pictures of the kids making their sales pitches to the second graders and other visitors!
What an amazing way to end our year together!! The day got off to a bit of a rocky start (the bounce houses and other inflatables blew a circuit at the school...!), but with a little flexibility by everyone-teachers, students, and parents-we got things rolling again and had an AmAzInG time!!
I'm not sure if the pictures are going to load in order, so here's the rundown of what we did today: 1. Yearbook signing with all 6 third grade classes in the pod 2. Water Slide!!!! 3. Sno-cones and sidewalk chalk 4. Face Painting 5. Bounce house and Slam Dunk basketball inflatable 6. Bikes, Trikes, and Bubbles This week we had our own version of Shark Tank in 3rd grade and lounged luxuriously while watching panda bears! Part of our BizMovie project has the students prepare sales pitches to venture capitalists. This means we had to incorporate our companies so that we had stocks to sell first! Then each company sent two representatives to the Sharks to convince them to invest in their companies! We also enjoyed a brain break from STAAR reviews and built our scheme about animals with a field trip to watch "Born in China." We were surprised with luxury loungers, which we all enjoyed a lot!!
